§ 14-8. Street lamps.

  • The board of aldermen may cause as many public lamps to be erected, placed and maintained in the streets and public grounds of the city as they shall judge expedient, and may make and cause to be executed such orders and regulations respecting the same as they shall think proper. They shall also appoint one (1) suitable person or more to keep the lamps in order and to light and extinguish the same according to the directions of the board of aldermen from time to time to be given. If any person shall wrongfully light or extinguish any of the lamps, or shall wrongfully turn on gas or electricity at any of the lamps, or shall wrongfully injure, break or destroy any of the lamps, or any part of the lamps, such person shall pay to the city just damages therefor, and shall also forfeit and pay to the city the sum of five dollars ($5.00).
