§ 16-28. Towing of vehicles authorized for overtime parking, violation of parking regulations; notice; fees.

  • Whenever any vehicle shall be found parked in any parking space or on city property over the time and beyond the period of legal parking time established for such place by the traffic authority and/or the board/agency designated with the supervision and control of a specific piece of property, or shall be found parking in violation of any of the provisions of any resolution, rule or regulation of the traffic authority, such vehicle may be removed or conveyed by or under the direction of a member of the department of police by means of towing the same or otherwise. Such removal shall be at the risk of the owner; and before the owner or person in charge of such vehicle shall be permitted to remove the same shall furnish evidence of his identity and ownership or right to possession; pay the cost of towing and/or removal of the vehicle; shall sign a receipt for the vehicle; for a violation shall pay the clerk of the police department at headquarters the fine imposed, plus storage charges, provided, however, a police officer may in lieu of towing such vehicle serve upon the owner or operator thereof to appear at the office of police headquarters of the city before the time specified in such notice.
